Vegas Gambler Loses $200k on UFC Fight

The UFC saw another huge gambling loss for a lone gambler last week, one punter taking a $200,000 chance on underdog Jorge Masvidal only to lose the lot, although it was not quite the $1million Tom Dwan lost on last months big fight…

Huge bets in Vegas on fighting aren't exactly new, but the UFC is one of the few big-time sporting events to have re-opened since the COVID-19 lockdown began, although it travelled half the world to do so.

The Flash Forum on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates was the venue for the headlining Jorge Masvidal versus Kamaru Usman welterweight title fight.

William Hill bookmakers at the M Resort in Las Vegas took the $200k wager, relieved when Masvidal lost a unanimous decision to betting favourite Usman, saving themselves at least a one-off $660,000 payout.

Usman, however, found it all quite amusing when told of the huge bet against him, a double “Whoops!” followed by: “I mean, if you are going to bet money like that, you probably don’t need it. I hope he doesn’t miss it.”

Dwan’s $million UFC punt

Just last month we reported on Tom Dwan’s reputed $1million wager on the outcome of the Cody Garbrandt vs Raphael Assuncao UFC fight.

More used to betting $1million at the poker tables rather than on sports, Dwan’s punt on the bantamweight brawl backfired when Cody ‘No Love’ Garbrandt landed a vicious right uppercut-cum-hook to end the UFC 250 fight just 1 second before the buzzer ended round 2.
