The Welsh Wizard, Roberto Romanello, joined the list of triple crown winners last night, securing a WSOP gold bracelet to go with his EPT and WPT Main Event victories…

The well-respected partypoker pro was among 922 entries for event 39 on the summer schedule, the $1,500 NLHE bracelet event on the GG Network producing a prizepool of $1,313,850.

The field was a stacked one, with Kristen Bicknell and Adrian Mateos joined by the likes of Kings Casino boss Leon Tsoukernik and Portuguese WSOP bracelet winner Joao Vieira among the also-rans.

There were also plenty of big names in the money, with highstakes regs Jake Schindler, Ali Imsirovic and Sergi Reixach all securing min. cashes of $3,237, while Alex Foxen finished 45th for $4,393 and Russian star Artur Martirosian came 15th for $8,759.

Come the final table and the two standout names were Roberto Romanello and online MTT crusher Niklas Astedt, the Swedish pro known as Lena900 standing atop the all-time rankings with over $20million in winnings.

With steep rises in the payouts, it would prove to be ‘pocket pair wins the race’ for places 8th through 5th, England’s Paul Barnes taking out Frenchman Thomas Cazayous to leave just four.

When Trofimov fell in 4th – his outkicked ace flopping a pair but falling anyway to Astedt’s runner-runner straight – the remaining trio was guaranteed $100k+ payouts, but all eyes were on the bracelet.

It wasn’t to be for Barnes, calling off his short stack only to see the bad news…

Astedt: 5♣ 5♦
Barnes: 3♦ 3♠
Board: J♦ 8♥ 2♦ 6♠ 10♠

Third place for Barnes then and a $113,866 cash, leaving Romanello and Astedt heads-up with equal stacks and both chasing their first WSOP gold.

The defining moment would see a pocket pair again triumph, Romanello flopping a set with his sevens against Astedt’s KQ, and with a solitary BB left it was soon all over – the Welsh Wizard victorious.

For Romanello it gave him a WSOP bracelet to go with his 2010 EPT Prague Main Event trophy and his 2011 WPT Bratislava Main Event win, making him the 9th player to complete the hattrick.

Final results

1 Roberto Romanello $216,213
