Charlie Godwin Turns $109 Satellite Into $100k Buy-in and $620k Payday

Englands Charlie Godwin turned a $109 satellite into a $620,000 payday, finishing an incredible 3rd against some of the biggest names in the game in the WPT World Online Championships SHR…

Jason Koon had described Godwin’s remarkable run to the final table, one of seven left chasing six prizes, with Michael Addamo and Isaac Haxton among the opposition.

“Here's an amazing story for you,” related partypoker ambassador Koon. @charlie_godwin turned a $109 satellite ticket into a $1050 satellite ticket and then turned that into a seat into the @partypoker $102,000 super high-roller. She now sits 1 person away from cashing!! Let's go, Charlie!”

With one player of the remaining seven leaving without a payday, it looked like being Godwin, the young English woman coming in as the short stack, soon all-in and at risk…

With Loeliger having already folded one ace, things were looking grim for Godwin, but then…

River: A♣

That ‘miracle’ river was enough to get Godwin into the money, Canadian highroller Daniel Dvoress falling soon afterwards to Spanish crusher Sergei Reixach, guaranteeing Godwin and the others a $229,600 payout

That payout would go to Christoph Vogelsang, falling to a cooler when his pocket queens ran into Haxton’s kings and the board no help to the German.

When Linus Loeliger lost a race to Reixach, he took 5th spot and $276,000, and then Reixach himself hit the rail when his small ace ran into Haxton with big slick in the big blind.

Godwin’s incredible run had taken her to the final three, with a $million payout and WPT title awaiting the winner, but her luck finally ran out when Australia’s Michael Addamo in the big blind found a bigger ace than Charlie’s.

Out in 3rd spot, the $620,000 cash was by far the biggest of her life and amounted to an ROI of more than 550,000%!

All that was left from an amazing final table was the heads-up battle between two legends of the game, Addamo and Haxton.

With Godwin gone, a deal was soon struck, the ICM numbers shown below from the live updates, with $30,000 set aside for the eventual winner.

Despite, or perhaps because of having locked up $1.2million apiece, the pair put on a high-class poker show for the fans, but there could be only one walking off with the trophy, and that eventually came down to this hand…

Haxton: 5♣ 5♠

That gave Addamo the WPT title, Haxton a massive payday and filling out the podium, Charlie Godwin yet again showed the poker dream is alive and well.

2 Isaac Haxton $1,216,286*
3 Charlie Godwin $620,000

5 Linus Loeliger $276,000
