Chance Kornuth Strikes Back for $70k in Galfond PLO Challenge

It is hard nowadays to get new news out before it’s old news, but no  sooner had we told you all about Phil Galfond racing out to an early lead in his latest PLO Challenge match, than Chance Kornuth hit back with a huge winning session!

By: Andrew Burnett

The pair are battling out a 35k hands match at $100/$200 PLO with RIO boss Phil 'HeyGuys' Galfond offering Chip Leader Coaching founder, Chance 'BingShui' Kornuth, a huge 4:1 odds on a massive sidebet.

Kornuth stands to pick up a cool $1million on that bet if he can become the first player to defeat Galfond.

Phil has so far turned back the clock to his OMGClayAiken Full Tilt heyday and beaten online beasts VeniVidi1993 and ActionFreak, as well as taking a mini-match victory over Dan 'Jungleman' Cates, and a $90k lead over Bill Perkins after two sessions of their PLO challenge.

As we reported a couple of days ago, Kornuth had fallen behind by some $60k after the first week of the match, and the first session of this week didn’t go much better.

Staring a massive loss in the face, at one point $150k down on the day, Chance fought back bravely to close the session down just a third of that – although it gave Galfond an overall 6-figure lead.

Day 6 dawned, however, and the fightback continued on from the close of day 5, with Kornuth booking a $70,000 win for the session, closing the gap on his foe to just one-and-a -half buy-ins.

You can follow the match live with poker’s GTO commentator Henry Kilbane calling the action on TwitchTV…
