Doug Polk Storms Back with $200k Session to Retake Lead in Grudge Match with Daniel Negreanu

Doug Polk managed to halt the rot in style, taking more than $200,0000 from his archnemesis Daniel Negreanu in their Grudge Match of the Century showdown, regaining the overall lead in the process…

The duelling duo have been trading blows online on WSOP.com for three weeks now, their $200/$400 HUNL battle designed to finally settle their long-running feud.

Negreanu, the outsider with the bookmakers, has so far surprised most people by being very competitive – even winning four of the last five sessions to jump into a $178k lead.

Yesterday the GGPoker ambassador’s wife Amanda was a special guest on the site’s livestream, along with commentators Brett Hanks and Jeff Platt. As the session kicked off, Mrs Negreanu revealed the goal for the day – Daniel looking for a $140k win.

She didn’t bring her husband the luck he had likely hoped for, though this early $92k pot, a cooler for Polk shoving on the turn, had her cheering on the sidelines…

Just a few minutes later, however, the roles were reversed as flush over flush cost DNegs more than a buy-in as he snapped off Polk’s river overbet only to be faced with the brutal news…

Polk: K♥ 7♥
Negreanu: 10♥ J♥

Flop: 9♥ 5♥ 4♦
Turn: 2♥
River: 9♣

That was to set the tone for the rest of the session, and it was a return to the first couple of day’s play online, DNegs facing big river bets as Polk turned up the aggression factor.

That was enough for the Upswing Poker boss to bank just over $205k in two hours of play, putting him ahead once again in the overall match, though by little more than half a buy-in.

Naturally Polk was happy to find a winning day, while Negreanu seems to be enjoying himself, and so far avoiding the horrible drubbing many had predicted for him.

The match resumes on Monday and we’ll bring you all the best of the action here on HighStakesDB, so be sure to check in regularly.
