Doug Polk Cracks Daniel Negreanu’s Aces on Way to Monster Winning Session in Grudge Match

Doug Polk pocketed another $173k from Daniel Negreanu in their Grudge Match showdown, describing the session 18 win as the luckiest session I’ve had of the entire challenge.

Negreanu’s bad luck has been a feature of the match so far, every session seeming to bring him a rough ride on the wrong side of variance, leading to a post-session 17 meltdown on Wednesday.

Some of yesterday’s hands, as Polk tweeted, could be added to that long list of coolers and bad beats, and the Upswing poker man was soon up a stack on each of the two $200/$400 WSOP.com tables.

Negreanu: Q♠ K♠
Polk: A♣ 9♥

Flop: Q♥ 3♥ 5♠
Turn: A♠
River: 3♣

That was an $80k pot, with Negreanu on the wrong end of it – “sometimes you just gotta pay!” said Jonathan Little in the commentary room as DNegs paid off the river - and there was plenty more to come.

To stacks soon became four, with the most hand egregious being this $80k pot below, Negreanu flopping trips and having the ace of hearts blocker to the flush, all to no avail as the money went in on the river…

Negreanu: Q♠ A♥
Polk: K♥  10♥

Flop: Q♣ 6♥  Q♥
Turn: J♥
River: 4♦

“Oh my, oh my!” was about all Jeff Platt could manage in the GGPoker commentary, hand on head as their site ambassador took another step down into what was becoming a close to a $1million pit

As if that wasn’t bad enough, as soon as Negreanu sat back down again after a short break, the hand in the opening tweet occurred…

♠ ♣ ♦ ♥

Negreanu: A♠ A♦
Polk: K♥  K♣

Flop: Q♣ K♠ 5♠
Turn: J♣
River: J♦

Another stack, another brutal bad beat for Negreanu and the whole thing worthy of a tweet…

It turned out to be one of the longest sessions of the match so far, Danile fighting back well but still ending the day down well into the six-figures, Polk keeping us all updated with the stats…

The Grudge Match is back o again today, Friday, and we’ll be back with all the best of the days play for you in the morning! Can Negreanu finally stop the rot? Will Polk take a $1million from his arch-rival? Tune in to find out!
