Doug Polk Wins $1.2million as Grudge Match Against Daniel Negreanu Ends in Mutual Respect

It began as a showdown between two players who seemed to hate each other with every fibre of their being, but it ended with mutual respect despite Doug Polk taking $1.2million from Daniel Negreanu as their incredible Grudge Match came to an end…

The highstakes feud entered its final session last night, with Polk looking to close out the $200/$400 HUNL battle by crossing the $1million barrier.

Negreanu was looking to end the match on a high, unable to match his long-time foe overall, but certainly not disgracing himself in the three-month long fight.

First blood of session 36 went DNegs’ way, an $89k pot where Polk tank-folded a river shove on a double-paired board, and an hour into the match the GGPoker ambassador was up three buy-ins across the two online tables.

Polk soon fought back though, the river winning him a stack as his flush outgunned Daniel’s straight…

Daniel still hadn’t given up the ghost on a closing win of course, having previously taken big sessions versus his illustrious heads-up opponent. He bagged a $40k pot and the very next hand stacked Polk by check-calling a river over-bet, producing the full house for an $88k pot.

That was the high point of Daniel’s day, and unfortunately for the Canadian legend, it all went rapidly downhill thereafter, starting with a rivered flush for Polk that saw him take $100k against DNeg’s pocket queens.

By the end of the session, having hit the 25,000-hand mark, Polk emerged with a $255k win for the day, and that meant he had taken Negreanu for $1.2million give or take a few big blinds.

Doug had some very nice words for Daniel in his post-match interview, explaining that few players have a chance against him.
