SCOOP Review Day 12 - Dan "djk123" Kelly wins a SCOOP title

Dan "djk123" Kelly adds a SCOOP title to his amazing tournament record (and $73k).
SCOOP 2012

Day 12 of the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) was a great day for MTT specialist Dan "djk123" Kelly. He won his first SCOOP title in Event 29-M ($109+R Big Antes) which completed its second day of play yesterday. Events 31 and 32 started with the latter completing its first day of action with just the final table having to battle it out today (in Event 32-H). We witnessed top high stakes pros make deep runs in some of the events, with the likes of Genius28, joiso and CHUFTY all featuring in the same final table (oh and ElkY as well).

Event 29-M, $109+R NLHE [Big Antes, $300k Gtd]

Entrants: 1660, Total prize pool: $491,400 (1660 entries, 1879 re-buys, 1375 add-ons)

5th place: kripap (Hungary) $23,341.50
6th place: ro_Man777 (Germany) $18,427.50
7th place: djalminha (Portugal) $13,513.50
8th place: raare01 (Netherlands) $8,599.50
9th place: YugiohPro (South Korea) $4,914.00

We mentioned in the report yesterday when there were 19 players remaining that the notable players to watch were djk123, pistons87 and matt20. They all had a great second day in the tournament with all of them finishing in the top four. This is Dan "djk123" Kelly's first SCOOP title which he can add to his three WCOOP wins. He faced a tough opponent in pistons87 heads-up who is a HUSNG pro thus they agreed to make a deal after pistons87 won a big pot. djk123 chatted that he had to play the heads-up battle seriously even if it was for $6.5k because he had a side-bet which one can assume is for more than that amount. In the final hand of play, both players flopped trip fives but djk123 held the better kicker which held up to make him a SCOOP champ.

Event 29-H, $1,050+R NLHE [Big Antes, $400k Gtd]

Entrants: 277, Total prize pool: $778,000 (277 entries, 249 re-buys, 252 add-ons)

1st place: Gribnogrib (Russia) - $159,101
2nd place: Shhh00kem (Canada) - $116,700
3rd place: Face333X (Germany) - $87,914
4th place: Matthew "Matfrankland" Frankland (UK) - $66,130
5th place: JackOrsen72 (Germany) - $45,124
6th place: Anthony "holdplz" Spinella (Mexico) - $35,010
7th place: Steve "gboro780" Gross (Canada) - $27,230
8th place: Artem205 (Ukraine) - $19,450
9th place: Faraz "The-Toilet 0" Jaka (Mexico) - $14,782

There were some well-known players on the final table including Faraz Jaka, Matfrankland and JackOrsen72. They weren't however able to make it to heads-up play which was between Shhh00kem and Gribnogrib, with the latter holding a more than 2-1 chip lead when they started their battle. It took less than 20 hands for the match to end with Gribnogrib holding K9 on a QJT board against his opponent's 98 in a cooler with all the chips going in on the flop, and the Russian's hand holding up.

Event 31-H, $2,100 8-Game [$75k Gtd]

Entrants: 107, Total prize pool: $214,000

1st place: Chris "Genius28" Lee (Canada) - $58,315
2nd place: Alexander "joiso" Kostritsyn (Russia) - $39,055
3rd place: Team PokerStars Pro Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier (UK) - $29,960
4th place: Richard "CHUFTY" Ashby (UK) - $20,330
5th place: Kecinpulach (Czech Republic) - $14,980
6th place: Ig123456789 (Ukraine) - $11,235

This was an extremely tough table with the four players that finished top all being well-known in the high stakes community. Genius28 has been playing great at PLO recently and has featured in our daily reports of the high stakes action on a fairly regular basis recently. joiso is a feared mixed game player with very few players willing to play him and ElkY is regarded as one of the best tournament players in the world. CHUFTY is also a great mixed game player who plays the highest stakes on PokerStars on the 8-Game tables and previously battled with the likes of Ivey and Antonius on Full Tilt. joiso went into the heads-up battle with a 1.7-1 chip lead and held a more than 4-1 chip lead at one point before the young US pro (now currently based in Canada) made a great comeback to win the title.

Event 32-H, $2,100 PL Omaha Hi/Lo [$250k Gtd]
