Sofia Lovgren signs with 888poker, Xuan Liu also added to elite female roster

A couple of weeks ago we reported that Sofia Lovgren would be leaving her four year post as a Team PKR professional to move on to her “next big adventure” having been mysteriously “offered an opportunity that anyone would find hard to decline”, and two weeks on as promised, all has been revealed.

Speculation had been growing that she’d be on her way to one of the Rational Group brands in PokerStars or Full Tilt, but its 888poker that has emerged as the winners in the dash for the talented young Swede’s signature.

“Now it’s official. I’m in Venice and was presented as a new 888poker Team Pro”, said Lovgren on her Facebook page. “Some guessed it would be PokerStars but I have invested far too much in blue nail polish to go there!”

“888poker is really cool and has climbed to the top, recently passing Full Tilt as the second biggest poker site in the world.”

In her career so far, Lovgren has won more than $130,000 – including four WSOP cashes and a deep run in the Irish Open - on the live tournament circuit, but is better documented for her achievements in building bankrolls playing online cash games.  She is also a talented writer and blogger, with her work holding regular slots in national newspapers and European poker magazines.

In addition to the signing of Lovgren, 888poker have also snapped up Canadian professional tournament player Xuan Liu who has a formidable $1.4m in tournament winnings to her name, including a title at IPT San Remo in 2010, a 3rd place finish at EPT San Remo in 2011 and a 4th place finish at the 2012 PCA.

Lovgren and Liu will join Australian poker Hall of Famer Jackie Glazier and US cash game specialist Jessica Dawley in what is now arguably the strongest line up of female professionals in the industry.  888poker is “extremely proud and excited to welcome both women to the team”.
