Chris Moorman Wins Epic Last Gasp 22nd PocketFives Triple Crown

Moor success for Chris

Last week we brought you the news that online tournament kingpin Chris Moorman had claimed his 21st PocketFives Triple Crown and that he was already on the verge of a 22nd. We also suggested that you’d be crazy to bet against him making it two in two weeks, and he’s proved us right.

As we reported, almost immediately after locking up his 21st crown, he went on to win two more tournaments on two different sites – a win in the $82 six-max hyper turbo on PokerStars and then in FTOPS Event #5 for a combined score of over $10,000 - to give himself five days to complete the hat-trick.

However, the Essex lad didn’t make it easy for himself this time round, and waited until literally the last possible opportunity to clinch another slice of glory.

Moorman: “Another week of poker, another Triple Crown. This time I did it on my very last tournament that was eligible #22”

The all important third victory came in the PokerStars.FR Monday Night €30,000 Gtd event for a $9,211 pay day.

As reported on PokerNews, China’s Zhenru Xie has topped a field of 808 players to win the Macau Poker Cup 21 for a HK$1,667,000 ($215,073) pay day. His only other recorded cash was way back in 2008 when he came 10th in a Saturday Deepstack event at Dusk till Dawn.

The sparse nature of his record can perhaps be explained by his winner’s interview, when he exclaimed that he wouldn’t have even played the event if his wife hadn’t been so keen:

"I'm very happy to have won. I never thought I would win! I have played a lot in the UK, but this is my first tournament in Macau. My wife wanted to play, so I just came along to join her!”

Xie managed to defeat Matthew Ryan heads-up in bizarre fashion after calling the Australian’s all-in with 7-2. Ryan wasn’t strong either though, and his J-4 was defeated when the board ran out 9-8-7-A-5.
