Kevin Martin signs for Team PokerStars Online

Earlier this week, Canadian Twitch streamer Kevin Martin became the latest player to sign a sponsorship deal with online poker industry leaders PokerStars. Martin, who averages a four-figure audience per performance on his Twitch channel, also became the first player to ever join the site’s prestigious Team Online roster without first achieving its ‘Supernova’ VIP status.

The Calgary native, who is perhaps most renowned for his appearance on Season 3 of the Canadian version of popular reality TV show Big Brother, announced the news Wednesday night live on stream before confirming yesterday via Twitter:

“I’m excited to welcome my friend Kevin to Team PokerStars Online”, said housemate and fellow poker streamer Jaime Staples, who was also snapped up by PokerStars in April last year having accumulated a sizeable Twitch fan base.

“In a short space of time, Kevin has built a fun and entertaining online poker stream, and shown by focusing on excitement and engagement with audiences, any Twitch streamer can become a big success with some hard work.”

Martin, who plays under the alias ‘GarlicXToast’ on PokerStars, is yet to book a five-figure cash online but predominantly tackles micro and low stakes tournaments on stream.

He doesn’t claim to be a world beater or even a profitable player; instead putting emphasis on entertainment and interacting with his audience – an approach clearly condoned by Godfather of Twitch Poker and fellow Team PokerStars pro Jason ‘Jcarverpoker’ Somerville, who welcomed his new colleague in with open arms:
