SCOOP Breaks Record Across the Board

PokerStars 2016 SCOOP series has broken records galore, proving that online poker continues to thrive (in MTT's at least), despite the concerns of some in the community.

In total SCOOP generated almost $91m in prize-pools across the 168 tournaments (56 events, each with a low, medium, and high buy-in), making it the largest combined prize-pool in online poker history, besting the previous record set at SCOOP 2014 of $81.2m by a significant margin.

Stras Director of Corporate Communications, Eric Hollreiser said, “This record-breaking prize pool is testament to the enduring popularity of online poker. It’s also a result of the talented people and hard work exhibited by everyone at PokerStars, from the poker room tournaments team who put the schedule together, to the customer support teams helping our players get the most out of their experience."

As well as the overall prizepool record, all three Main Events (low, medium, and high) had higher turnouts then ever before with the High Main Event prize pool eclipsing $8m, over $1m clear of 2015's $6.94m.

There were plenty of high stakes regulars among the tournament winners including Doug "WCGRider" Polk, Jason Mercier, Luke "lb6121" Schwartz, Laszlo "omaha4rollz" Bujtas, RaulGonzales, tjbentham, Jens "Fresh_oO_D" Lakemeier, calvin7v, Matthew 'MUSTAFABET' Ashton, Ilkka "bernard-bb" Koskinen, OtB_RedBaron, Dan "w00ki3z." Cates, and Andres "Educa-p0ker" Artinano.

Other highlights included Shawn "buck21" Buchanan winning three events, giving him 6 SCOOPs in total (to go with his WCOOP and TCOOP titles), Calvin "cal42688" Anderson winning his 7the SCOOP tilte, and Shaun Deeb winning Player of the Series.
