Bryn Kenney Challenges Phil Hellmuth to $1million Showdown

The all-time tournament money-winner Bryn Kenney has called out Phil Hellmuth, challenging the leading WSOP bracelet winner to a $1million match to decide who is the GOAT tournament player.

Kenney, who leapt to the top of the earnings list when he bagged a runner-up Triton Poker payday of $20million, is the latest in a long line of top-notch pros to fancy their chances against the 15-time WSOP bracelet winner.

So far, things haven’t ended well for those who have taken on the Poker Brat mano-a-mano, with Daniel Negreanu last week joining Antonio Esfandiari in the loser’s circle.

The HighStakesDuel II between Kid Poker and his new nemesis saw Hellmuth crawl back from a massive chip deficit to scoop the $50,000 prize, adding to $350k he took from The Magician over three ‘Duels’.

Now Kenney wants a piece of the action, although the 34-year old New Yorker had to suffer some very brutal putdowns from the poker community…

Kenney has amassed $56,403,501 over his career, although his 2019 Triton Million cash in London accounts for $20million of that, and he admitted he had to invest half his bankroll to enter the $1million buy-in event.

Hellmuth initially wasn’t too impressed by Kenney approach, though, tweeting back: “Bryn - I have massive respect for you, I actually think you have a shot at becoming the poker GOAT (because you play all the games so well). Matusow thinks you're the best! When you say I’m getting crushed at High Rollers, and it’s NOT true, seems like an attack on my legacy.”

Eventually Kenney had to respond to his critics, and did so with a remarkable offer…

It’s rare that Hellmuth turns down anything to do with helping charities, so perhaps we’ll see some version of the ultimate GOAT face-off at some point.

First, however, Daniel Negreanu gets his chance at redemption, part two of their HighStakesDuel just announced for May 5th, each player having to put up $100k this time.
