Belarusian high-stakes player Mikita "fish2013" Badziakouski took down a HK$500,000 buy-in Super High Roller event in Macau on Sunday after outlasting Tom "durrrr" Dwan in the heads-up play.
The Super High Roller event was part of the 2017 Macau Billionaire Poker (MBP) Spring Challenge tournament series currently running at Babylon Casino in Macau. The buy-in was around $64,400 in US dollars and while only 12 players took part, the tournament managed to gain some media attention after players like Tom "durrrr" Dwan and Philipp "philbort" Gruissem showed up to play. The tournament was also streamed live on Douyu TV (a live streaming site similar to Twitch) with Chinese commentary.
Dwan, who had not cashed in a live poker tournament since 2014, found himself eventually heads-up against Mikita "fish2013" Badziakouski for the title. However, despite taking the lead at one point during the heads-up play, Dwan went on to lose the title.
At the time of writing, the final results and payouts for the tournament had not been announced, but a quick look at the payout structure would suggest, that Dwan earned +US$250,000 for his runner-up finish, while Badziakouski received around US$420,000 for his win.
