The Stars Group Exits from the Australian market

One of the last publicly traded gambling companies that was still operating in Australia, The Stars Group, has now officially left the online gambling market.

The Stars Group (parent company of PokerStars) and other publicly traded operators were forced to exit the Australian market because the new Interactive Gambling Amendment Act in Australia allows only licensed companies to operate in the country. What made even worse for the Australian players, was the fact that World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) just kicked off and is currently running on PokerStars.

Other publicly traded companies like partypoker, left the Australian market already on August 31st:

“We regret that this day has come as Australia is a strong poker market. We will continue to work with the Australian player alliance to lobby the government to provide a safe regulated environment for residents to play online poker in the future," partypoker Managing Director Tom Waters commented the situation on August.

The situation might not be changing for Australian online poker players anytime soon either, and it's really a lose-lose situation to everyone as Australians love to play online poker and the poker sites will lose a lot of customers.
