Jason Mercier Leaves Team PokerStars Pro

Jason Mercier has made the same decision as Vanessa Selbst and announced yesterday, that he is leaving Team PokerStars.

Mercier signed with PokerStars eight and a half years ago at the 2009 WSOP, when he had just captured his first WSOP gold bracelet. However, after his son was born late last year, Mercier had to make the hard choice and bid farewell to Team PokerStars.

Indeed, in his farewell post at PokerStars Blog, Mercier appears to have struggled with the decision for quite some time, but it was eventually an easy one:

"After my son was born, I knew things were going to be different. One of the major things to address was my relationship with PokerStars. My contract was set to expire at the end of 2017, and I wasn't sure what exactly was going to happen there," Mercier explained.

Mercier says, that he and his wife Natasha initially thought they would continue to travel even with a baby, at least for a year or two. However, Mercier eventually decided that it would be best to end the whole relationship with PokerStars, and the full-time travel schedule, that came with the deal.

"As I thought more and more over the days and weeks, the answer seemed simple. This was probably going to be the end of my relationship with PokerStars, and the end of my full time travel schedule. The conversation about my contract was short and sweet. There were no hard feelings and there never would or could be. I was a PokerStars Pro for eight and a half wonderful years. I'm forever grateful that they took a chance on me when I was just a 22-year-old kid who had just captured his first gold bracelet in the summer of 2009," Mercier writes.

According to Mercier, he is still going to play all the big Florida series events, the 2018 WSOP in Las Vegas this summer and the 2019 PCA.
