Daniel Negreanu Taking $50,000 Bets On Winning the US Poker Open Cup

As he did for last year's inaugural Poker Master Series, Daniel Negreanu has once again offered to bet $50,000 on himself vs any other player to win the US Poker Open Cup at the upcoming US Poker Open.

The bet, as it did for last September's Poker Master Series only sees a payout if either Negreanu or anyone who bets against him ends up winning the US Poker Open Cup by cashing for more money than any other player over the course of the 8 event series. Of course, the more of these bets Negreanu takes on, the more likely he is to end up having to shell out $50,000. However, if he manages to win the Cup, he could be in for a huge payday. At the Poker Masters Series 20 players ended up betting against Negreanu, meaning that had he won the Purple Jacket he would have walked away with an additional $1m.

Although his chances of winning, especially in what is likely to be a hugely talented field, are not fantastic they should at least be considerably better than at the Master Series which was all NLHE. With PLO and 8-Game tournaments also in the mix this time out, Negreanu's chances of success will be considerably higher given that a lot of the high roller regulars (particularly the uber-successful German contingent) are almost exclusively NLHE players. Negreanu, meanwhile, has played multiple formats for years and has enjoyed WSOP success in mixed-games, limit games, and NLHE.

While proposing his latest bet, Negreanu also made a nicely aimed needle at his friend and sometimes adversary, Phil Hellmuth, offering The Poker Brat the opportunity to bet him up to $250,000.

The US Poker Open starts tomorrow (Thursday 1st February) and runs for 11 days, with the action being streamed on subscription service PokerGO. We'll be following all the action here at HSDB also so be sure to check our news output for details of the lastest big winner at the Aria.
