Michael Chi Zhang Wins partypoker MILLIONS Germany $50,000 Super High Roller

The $50,000 Super High Roller at the partypoker MILLIONS Germany has been won by the young Brit Michael Chi "mczhang" Zhang for €800,000 ($979,876).

The day started with eight players remaining but only six paid spots meaning that two unfortunates were destined to go home empty handed. The unlucky two turned out to be the Italian player who only went by the name 'Big Tony' in 8th and poker legend (and winner of one of last week's €25k High Rollers) Patrik Antonius in 7th. The chip leader going into day 2 was Italian phenom Mustapha Kanit who sat on 11.475m chips.

Big Tony busted on the 4th hand of the day after jamming with pocket 8's on a {9-Hearts}{7-Spades}{3-Hearts} flop. Timothy Adams, who had called Tony's preflop raise out of the big blind called with {K-Spades}{9-Diamonds} for top pair, busting Big Tony after the {2-Diamonds} turn and {6-Spades} river.

Just 3 hands later Antonius shoved 3.4m with {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} and once again Timothy Adams was on hand to bust a player, calling with {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}. A board of bricks sent Antonius to the raill as bubble-boy.

Five hands later and Adams found yet another victim in Dietrich Fast when the German pro pushed his last 2m chips in the middle from the button with {A-Spades}{7-Diamonds} and Adams called from the small blind with {A-Clubs}{8-Clubs}. Adams kicker played and Fast took home a min-cash of €130,000 while Adams moved up close to 19m chips which represented a huge chip lead at the time.

It took almost 40 minutes for the next elimination and when it came it boosted Mustapha Kanit to within touching distance of regaining the chip lead. After an early position raise from Kanit, Felipe Ramos shoved for 4m from the small blind with {A-Spades}{J-Clubs}.  Kanit made the call with {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} and the dominating hand held up to send Ramos to the rail in 5th for €180,000 and send Kanit up to 17.3m.

At this time Michael Zhang was sitting at the bottom of the chip counts but after Kanit took a sizeable pot from Germany's Tobias Ziegler the 22 year old Brit had enough chips to bust Ziegler on the 63rd hand of the final table when the German went all-in for 4.55m from the button with {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} and Zhang called from the small blind with {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}. A board of {a-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{k-Hearts} secured the pot for Zhang who moved up over 11m and sent Ziegler crashing out in 4th, good for a €260,000 payday.

After this Zhang began to play some power poker, overtaking Adams and drawing level with Kanit for the chip lead. He then went on to take a huge chip lead after busting Adams in a monster 27m chip pot. After raising preflop and betting the turn on a {9-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{k-Spades} board holding just {q-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} Adams decided to go for broke with his last 10.8m on the {a-Clubs} river. Unfortunately for him Zhang had checked backed two pairs holding {a-Hearts}{9-Spades} and sent Adams packing to collect his 3rd place winnings of €362,500,

Although Kanit did manage to almost draw level during heads-up play when his {5-Hearts}{5-Clubs} outlasted Zhang's {k-Hearts}{10-Hearts} in an all-in preflop pot, Zhang then pulled away once more, finally sealing the deal on the 134th hand of the day when Zhang put Kanit all-in for 18m chips and received a call. This time it was Zhang's turn to see a low pocket pair (in this instance {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}) outlast the two overcards ({A-Spades}{9-Spades}) of Mustapha Kanit and the tournament was over.

Above: Mustapha Kanit started the day as chip-leader and almost managed to end the day on top, eventually finishing runner-up to Michael Zhang in the €50k Super High Roller for €500k.

Kanit earned €500,000 for his runner-up finish while Zhang made a career best payday of €800,000 and took down the Super High Roller title at partypoker Millions Germany - a far cry from just a few short years ago when he bragged about winning £100 after spending hours to final table a £2 MTT online;
