Fox Gives Up Bracelet for Equal Chop as Petrangelo Lifts $100k Title

Nick Petrangelo emerged victorious in the $100k High Roller at the WSOP last night, lifting his second bracelet and a massive $2,910,227 ahead of a stellar field, defeating Elio Fox heads-up after agreeing to an equal chop of the money, although the deal will doubtless be talked about more than the victory.

It took 4 days of play to whittle the 105 players down to a winner, last night the final six battling it out for the lion’s share of the $10,185,000 prizefund with Bryn Kenney, Andreas Eiler and Stephen Chidwick in the mix – the outsider being little-known German player Aymon Hata who had already doubled his lifetime earnings just by making the final table.

Both Chidwick and Petrangelo were coming off the back of deep runs in last week’s Super High Roller Bowl, finishing 7th and 6th respectively, while Elio Fox has had an amazing start to this year’s World Series, taking down the $10k Super Turbo Bounty just a few days ago…

The action came thick and fast from the outset, Chidwick losing out to Hata and Kenney departing when Fox’s overcards hit the river for a better pair. Next to hit the rail was Eiler, flopping trip jacks only to find Petrangelo with a full house, with Hata following his fellow German out in 3rd, again at the hands of Petrangelo, leaving Fox and Petrangelo to play for the bracelet.

Well, this tweet and others has already started a debate online – Fox and Petrangelo apparently agreeing to an equal share of the money and then speeding up the subsequent play for the bracelet by introducing forced ‘blind raises and 3-bets’ before Fox finally fell when his two pair was outgunned by Petrangelo’s higher two pair.

Petrangelo had kind words for Fox afterwards, saying "He's a great player. He has a really strong background, especially in these formats. He plays Turbo SNGs," adding about himself: "after a super intense week, it feels like a relief to be done more than anything."
