Brian Rast Takes Bracelet Number Four in Brunson’s Swansong Tournament

Bracelet number four for Brian Rast was a bittersweet affair, his $10k 2-7 Lowball Draw Championship victory coming as the fans were desperate for Doyle Brunson to lift bracelet number 11 in what was almost certain to be the poker legends final swansong…

Rast has cemented his own place among the world’s best as a tournament and cash game player, frequently mixing it with ‘Texas Dolly’ in the biggest games.

He said of Brunson’s final event: "I could still take a step back and appreciate from the poker world's perspective. He's played high-stakes poker longer than anyone. He's an icon, he's a legend. I could really appreciate from that perspective how special it is."

An extremely strong final table had emerged from the 95-runner field, Rast and Brunson joined by John ‘Johnny World’ Hennigan, Shawn Sheikhan, Dario Sammartino and James Alexander – although it would be Mike Wattel facing off with Rast heads-up for the bracelet and $259,670 up top…

Rast’s experience shone throughout, never giving Wattel any real chance to claw back the lead, the runner-up walking off with a very decent $160,489 consolation prize.

Official Final Table Results
