David Peters Scoops $1,118,158 in Triton 6-max High Roller

David Peters took down the Triton Poker HK$500k buy-in 6-max event in Jeju, South Korea today, seeing off a multi-national final table which included Spains Sergio Aido, Irelands Steve O’Dwyer and Englands Stephen Chidwick to make off with the $1,118,158 top prize.

With only 4 of the 23 runners guaranteed a payday, and with Ivey, Antonius and Juanda among those falling early, the battle for the top places was intense, and the standard matched the intensity as the final six sat down to play for the title…

Malaysia’s Chow Hing Yaung showed nerves of steel against his much better known tablemates…

…and showed quite clearly that knowing when to fold’em is often key to success even when the adrenaline is pumping with $millions on the line.

When Aido departed, the big question was who else would miss out on the cash, and it proved to be Luc Greenwood’s unlucky and unhappy day on the felt, the Canadian falling at the hands of high-roller expert Chidwick…

When Chow lost a race to O’Dwyer it ended his fine run, a healthy $248,457 payout for the Malaysian easing the pain somewhat…

England’s Stephen Chidwick was next to hit the rail, his offsuit A3 shove from the big blind forcing O’Dwyer into the tank, but eventually calling with pocket fours and watching the board brick out.

Peters and O’Dwyer, sitting either side of Phil Hellmuth’s 13th spot on the all-time tournament moneywinner’s list, had a ding-dong hour-long fight for glory, but setting a trap with a rivered straight was enough for Peters to prevail.

Final Results:

1 David Peters $1,118,158
2 Steve O’Dwyer $745,372
3 Stephen Chidwick $372,686
4 Chow Hing Yaung $248,457
