Ben Yu Talks “Enormous Life Mistakes” At The WSOP

When it comes to the WSOP Ben Yu really knows his potatoes.

This year alone saw him cash 15 times in events ranging from the $365 online event (213th place) to the $50,000 Players Championship (which he braceleted-up in). He also happened to get a 2nd, a 3rd and a 4th place finish which almost gave him a WSOP wheel.

So when Ben Yu tells you the biggest life mistake he sees people make at the WSOP, you listen.

That is precisely what he does in a recent interview with Poker News. The three time bracelet winner talks about the danger of becoming overly invested in any one single poker tournament.

Though the interview is really a rallying cry against a specific kind of results oriented thinking that he sees as dangerous, it also covers some interesting anecdotes and some perspective on the Main Event from someone who got into the top 60 this year.

Mind you, his advice is not wholly benevolent; he describes treating a given event as one’s “Main Event” is setting yourself up “for torture” and that he’s “gonna enjoy it a little bit.” Who wouldn’t?
