Shaun Deeb Takes WCOOP Title on Son’s 2nd Birthday

Shaun Deeb was the star of the WCOOP on Saturday as he landed a celebratory victory worth $38,088 on the birthday of his two-year old son Chance – mirroring the result when he played WCOOP the day Chance was born!

It wasn’t the biggest scoop of day 7 in the PokerStars online series – that honour going to Austria’s Gianluca ‘Tankanza’ Speranza with a $140,634 victory in the 8-max Turbo High Roller – but for Deeb the PLO8 High win was his 5th WCOOP title, now inching ahead of his 4 live WSOP bracelets…

Not everyone was so impressed by Deeb’s poker grind on his son’s big day, however, some posters expressing dismay at Deeb’s choice…

…Deeb, touchy at the best of times (as this writer can attest to, after being Twitter blocked by the pro after writing this piece on Deeb’s squabble with Will Kassouf) ….

...has yet to reply to most of the denigrators, preferring instead to complain about another issue…

He did, however, explain the situation in the run-up to this year’s WCOOP in an interview for the PokerStars blog, stating of the 2016 situation: "There was discussion during that WCOOP about what I should do, because my little sister was getting married and my wife was set to give birth. There was a debate: do I go or do I stay?”

Deeb explained that it would have been “silly for me to miss it!” – meaning the profitable WCOOP series -  and said both his wife and sister agreed. “My sister was OK with it because my wife was OK with it, and my wife was OK with it because my sister was OK with it. So if those two ever got together and realised the other wasn't OK with it, I wouldn't have gone!"
