All Hail the Kaiser Chief

Around about the time the iconic indie band The Kaiser Chiefs were releasing their 4th album, The Future is Medieval, a young Swiss poker player was lifting $395k and the EPT Tallinn 2011 Main Event title – his own future a truly modern one, mixing live and online results for the new age. His name? Ronny Kaiser!

By: Andrew Burnett

Within 7 years, about the time it took the band to break through, Ronny had amassed $3million+ across both arenas – a testament to his aggressive and skilful play, trading blows with the best in the game and holding his own with apparently consummate ease…

Also as comfortable playing tournaments as he is cash games, Kaiser is a PLO man at heart – the game rewarding his sometimes crazy approach, with massive pots such as the following 3-way pre-flop all-in against Peter ‘GARFIELD25’ Chan and Jens ‘Jeans89’ Kyllönen adding to his impressive online profit…

We don’t always get to hear from the online legends, or even find out who they are as in the case of, for example, Berri Sweet, but Kaiser’s live scores have thrust him into the spotlight on a number of occasions, last year’s Barcelona €10k Super High Roller scoop of €735k certainly worthy of a short interview with PokerNews

Unfortunately for fans of his live results, it seems that Kaiser has been among the first to ask for his Hendon Mob listing to be removed – new European ‘data protection laws’ – the GDPR – affecting a number of important historical and publicly-relevant statistics.

It’s not clear, for example, exactly where Kaiser now sits on the all-time Swiss moneywinners list, and anyone wanting to find out who he played against in his live victories will have to trawl the news archives themselves (or, on occasion, trust that I’ve done the job accurately!)

Well, modern-day problems for a modern-day poker player. The Kaiser Chiefs from Leeds are still going strong after 17 years, but will we be saying the same thing about the Kaiser chief of poker in a few years’ time? The answer is probably yes – if he lets us read about it that is!
