Partypoker LIVE In Fear Of $Millions In CPP Overlay

Partypokers pros were out in force today in an attempt to avoid a $multi-million overlay at the Caribbean Poker Party Main Event in the Bahamas, Sam Trickett, Kristen Bicknell, Ludovic Geilich and even head honcho Mike Sexton all taking to the airwaves and Twittersphere…

The $5300 buy-in flagship tournament has a guaranteed $10million prizefund, but after four starting flights they are still a good 800 runners short – the expected 2000+ players not appearing at the Baha Mar Resort and Casino – not yet at least!

As the event heads into day 2b, the fifth and final starting flight, only 1208 runners have entered – ordinarily a huge number but this is no ordinary tournament, as partypoker chairman Mike Sexton explained in an interview with PokerNews reporter Sarah Herring, aka ‘AuntyChardonnay’ on Twitter…

There are likely a number of reasons behind the expected 7-figure shortfall – a glut of massive events with huge guarantees perhaps forcing players to pick and choose from among them.

Partypoker themselves having the $20million guaranteed MILLIONS Online coming up soon, the biggest-ever single online MTT in the history of poker

Add into the mix that there are some mega-huge buy-in events running alongside the CPP Main Event – several highroller events, including a $250,000 buy-in SHR and the recently completed $25k MILLIONS World won late last night by Roger Teska for $2million… and perhaps it was a little optimistic of partypoker?

Still, with big-name pros pushing for a final, late surge, the overlay may well be cut to something more manageable…

…although some sort of big hit to their pockets is still very likely. For the players, of course, that is massive extra value, and while partypoker themselves may be hoping for another few hundred, those already in the event will be wishing hard for exactly the opposite!
