Steffen Sontheimer Scoops $3,685,000 SHR Caribbean Poker Party Win

It is supposed to be Gus Hansen doing the great Winter spiel, but Germanys Steffen Sontheimer took over the duties last night when he took down the partypoker Caribbean Poker Party $250,000 Super High Roller for a monster $3,685,000.

In one fell swoop it wiped out the horrendous summer that ‘RunGo0seRun’ experienced this year, some $2million+ in buy-ins with little to show for it, but if there is one thing the best high-stakes players are noted for it is ‘bouncebackability’!

With 34 entries, a prizefund of over $7.5million was there for the taking, although only 4 spots would be paid and 6 players were left as day 3 began – and what a six they were!

Joining Sontheimer we had Belarus’ crusher Mikita Badziakouski, high stake cash game specialist Sean Winter, the legendary Ike Haxton, and the hugely experienced duo of David Peters and Nick Petrangelo – between them boasting over $107million in tournament cashes.

It wasn’t to be for either Haxton or Petrangelo though, the latter bubbling the money when his big slick failed to get there against Peters’ pocket jacks, and when Badziakouski – and then Peters himself – fell in quick succession we had a heads-up showdown.

Deep-stacked and settling in for what might have been a long match, two big hands clashing gave everyone an earlier night than expected…

♦ ♥ ♣ ♠

Sontheimer: A♥ K♥
Winter: A♣ Q♥

All the money went in pre-flop as you might expect heads-up, and it was Winter at risk…

Flop: 10♠ 5♦ 3♥
Turn: 4♠
River: 9♥

…and that, as they say, was that! Sontheimer scored his biggest-ever tournament victory by far, with Winter consoled by a massive cash for his runner-up spot.

Final Results

1 Steffen Sontheimer $3,685,000
2 Sean Winter $2,430,000
3 David Peters $1,420,000
4 Mikita Badziakouski $710,000
