Jungleman Closes 2018 by Calling Out Tom Dwan over ‘Durrrr Challenge’

Where are you Tom Dwan? That is the call from Daniel Jungleman Cates as he contemplates closing out another year of poker without closing the final chapter of the infamous and long-running durrrr Challenge.

The 2010 heads-up battle saw Dwan hammered for $1.2million before Black Friday struck in the spring of 2011, and Jungleman has been trying to either get the match finished, or receive compensation from Dwan ever since.

There have been sporadic bursts of activity and discussion between the two, Cates explaining in 2017 “He’s been paying me penalties every two months lately… He wants me to point out he’s given me something like $700,000 or $800,000 basically in penalties since 2010.”

As recently as this September, Cates supposedly told fellow online high-stakes pro Ilari ‘Ilari Fin’ Sahamies that Dwan had forfeited the challenge completely

…but Cates’ New Year tweet seems to call that into question… evoking some typical responses among the poker community, who would love to see the pair duel it out, although Cates would likely be happier with the substantial amount of cash he is owed.

Back in 2014 Cates had claimed: “He failed to uphold any promises he made to me. He’s extremely frustrating. It’s outrageous,” and stated “by the end of 2018” as the final date for any resolution. With just a few hours of 2018 left (and not even that if Dwan is back in Macau, it looks like Jungleman has reached the end of his tether.

Earlier this year, during the Triton Super High Roller series in Montenegro, Dwan explained: “I’d like to play it at some point…it’s more on me than him but it didn’t look like he really wanted to face Jungleman Dan when he added: “Hopefully there are a lot of big games and that gets put off a bit”.
