Record-breaking $25k PSPC Sees Stars and Amateurs Battle in the Bahamas

The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure kicked off yesterday with the much-hyped PSPC event, a $25k buy-in beast which has drawn a record-breaking field of over 1000 players ranging from the biggest names in the game to celebrities to complete amateurs.

Gus Hansen, Daniel Negreanu, Patrik Antonius and Phil Hellmuth were all there, as were former WSOP Main Event champs Ryan Riess, Joe McKeehen and Joe Cada, with 2018 winner John Cynn. Among the stars of the sporting world we had golfer Sergio Garcia and NBA’s Paul Pierce, with skateboarding legend Tony Hawk in the mix too.

The action got underway in the Atlantis resort with UFC Octagon announcer Bruce Buffer doing his thing…

…while the likes of Liv Boeree was doing hers to get there on time with hubby Igor Kurganov and Matthew Waxman

The attraction of what is likely to be a phenomenal prizepool when registration ends later today was coupled with the hundreds of Platinum Passes that PokerStars handed out throughout 2018.

The site has also sent its top players and streamers, with Lex Veldhuis, Kevin Martin, Jaime Staples and Jeff Gross taking their seats, but it’s anyone’s guess where exactly the legendary Gus Hansen was when he posted this on Instagram!

With the tournament being a freezeout, the highstakes beasts had one shot only, and for Bryn Kenney, Erik Seidel, Steve O'Dwyer and Adrian Mateos it’s already over – although three high roller events are on the schedule so they won’t be leaving the Caribbean just yet.

Shaun Deeb, Vanessa Selbst, Maria Ho all bust out, as did Negreanu and Hansen, with Boeree and Kurganov hitting the rail too.

Hedgefund billionaire and poker fanatic Talal ‘raidalot’ Shakerchi leads the way by a large margin at the end of day one, and below is a list of chip counts of the big names and players…

Talal Shakerchi 425,300
Kristen Bicknell 207,900
Joey Ingram 150,200
Patrik Antonius 113,300
Chris Moneymaker 94,200
Chris Moorman 89,500
Justin Bonomo 78,200
