Phil Hellmuth All Set For partypokerLIVE Rio Carnival!

He is one of the most easily recognisable stars of the poker world, and that likely will not change when Phil Hellmuth hits the Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro this month, the PokerBrat on his way to play the partypoker LIVE MILLIONS South America stop in Brazil!

HighstakesDB caught up with the legendary 15-times WSOP bracelet winner to ask him about partypoker’s LIVE tour, his favourite – and least favourite – poker destinations, and what we can expect from him during his Rio de Janeiro adventure!

Q: Does playing partypokerLIVE South America mean we may see you with a new sponsor patch on your infamous hat/outfits in the near future?

We will see. In 2018 I signed with Decent.Bet, a rugged and committed group that will bring peer-to-peer online gambling all over the globe using their DecentBet Crypto Coin. Although Crypto is down, Decent.Bet is NOT out! My contract with Decent.Bet has ended (for now) and my agent Brian Balsbaugh thinks I would be a perfect spokesman for DraftKings, PokerStars, Rivers Casinos or partypoker. Can you imagine the television commercials?!?

Q: You have seen it all... what's so great about what partypokerLIVE are doing right now for you to want to be such a huge part of it?

Over the last half of 2018, I sat home for two months (lovely!), and then made appearances and was bummed out to miss two partypoker monster tourneys!!  One in Bahamas and one in Canada... I have been missing way too many big, and important, poker tournaments for far too long!!  Yes, my life is well-balanced, but I need more big tourneys!

Q: Use three words to sum up South American poker players/poker fans?

Super aggressive, unbluffable!

Q: We hear it is your first time playing in South America... what are you expecting?

I’m bringing my wife and we are hitting “Carnevale,” which is kinda a bucket list for us... I will put on a nice seminar for the online qualifiers. But I always expect to run deep, deep, deep: otherwise why go?

Q: Where is your favorite poker destination?

Of course it’s the World Series of Poker!  I also loved Paris, and Aruba...

Q: Where has been your worst?

Monte Carlo, although beautiful, has yielded my worst results, EVER!  [I talk about this at great lengths in my autobiography “Poker Brat”].  I will go back, eventually, and turn that around...

Phil will be joining thousands of other hopefuls in Rio for the LIVE MILLIONS South America stop from March 15th until 24th, with the flagship Main Event boasting a $5million guarantee.

The spectacular Copacabana Palace Hotel will be hosting the series, just a stones-throw from the iconic beach of the same name, and there will be $7million guaranteed in total across all the events.

A few highlights of the upcoming series include:

  • a $25,000 Super High Roller,
  • a  $1M GTD High Roller with $10,300 buy-in,
  • a $1M GTD Open with a $1,100 buy-in.
