Nick Schulman Takes Down USPO Mixed Game Title for $270,000

He is better known nowadays as a commentator on the game, but Nick Schulman showed he still has what it takes to compete with the best, landing the $25k 8-Game Mix at the US Poker Open yesterday.

There may have been only 17 players accounting for 20 entries to the championship, but the names on show meant it would be as hard-fought as any other tournament on the high-stakes schedule.

Phil Hellmuth, Justin Bonomo, Cary Katz, Brian Rast, Stephen Chidwick – this would prove to be no walk in the park, and Schulman explained afterwards: "You gotta be pumped up to play with these wizards!"

By the end of day one, only four players would be left to fight it out for the three prizes, and when play resumed it was Randy Ohel who missed out on the money – a Stud 8 hand and Schulman his executioner.

When Brandon Adams disposed of Chris Vitch in a close 2-7 Triple Draw hand, it was down to two, the players evenly-stacked and evenly-matched for some time. Eventually, however, it was Schulman who finished the job at Limit Hold’em and the trophy was his.

"It feels damn good," Schulman stated afterwards "There's nothing like winning a tournament, regardless of the field size. It feels great and getting a clear first is exciting."

His victory puts him in 3rd spot in the overall US Poker Open standings, behind Stephen Chidwick and Sean Winter who have 4 cashes apiece.

Final Table Results

1 Nick Schulman $270,000
2 Brandon Adams $150,000
3 Chris Vitch $80,000
