Timothy Adams Takes Down Triton Series Main Event for $3.54 million

Canadian Timothy Adams is the new Triton Poker Series Main Event champion after seeing off a star-studded field to lift the trophy and HK$27.76 million (US$3.54 million).

The HK$2 million (US$255,000) buy-in tournament saw 32 players, with 16 re-buys, and that produced a prizepool of HK$90,204,000, more than US $11.5million, with the final table of six sharing the big money prizes.

It turned out to be a USA vs Canada affair, Adams and Peter Jetten from north of the border and four of the very best highstakes US players in history – Bryn Kenney, Dan Smith, David Peters and Isaac ‘Ike’ Haxton.

Unfortunately for the latter pair, the final table lasted one and two hands respectively, Haxton running into Kenney’s pocket kings as soon as play started.  Peters joined him on the very next hand, shoving his shortstack with a raggedy ass ace and falling victim to Jetten pairing his king on the flop.

Kenney received pocket kings again and disposed of Jetten, and then he saw off Dan Smith - a last-minute arrival for the Triton Series biggie – to leave himself facing Adams for the title.

A heads-up deal saw both men assure themselves of lifetime biggest paydays and then Adams ran extremely well to see off the American’s challenge, a queen-high flush good enough to call Kenney’s final bluff.

“It’s kind of standard,” Adams explained of the denouement, adding: “I was obviously very thrilled to get called.”

Of his biggest ever win, he stated: “It feels really good. I’m really tired right now, three really gruelling days of poker…The field was really tough. The best players in the world were in the field.”
