Jason Koon Wins Triton Refresh for $973,306

When Triton Poker signed up Jason Koon as an ambassador, even they probably did not expect him to run hotter than the sun in their own events – but that is exactly what Koon did this week in Jeju, adding the HK$1 million (US$127,000) Refresh title to his resume for HK$7.64 million (US$973,000).

Just a few days ago Koon lifted the HK$22.3 million (US$2.84 million) first prize in the 5th event of Triton Poker’s Super High Roller Series stop in South Korea, and with another two final tables he was far and away the star of the show.

Koon said afterwards: “It’s ridiculous to sign up for six tournaments and turn up and final table four of them, and win two of them,” adding, “It doesn’t happen very often. I’ve run extremely, extremely well, but that’s what has to happen. Some weeks you run good, this week I ran fire hot.”

Koon didn’t walk off with the most money in yesterday’s refresh, however, a heads-up deal with England’s all-time leading moneywinner Stephen Chidwick seeing the Brit edging the cashouts, but Koon going on to take the title after a lengthy battle.

Twenty five players had entered, but the by the time it came down to the four who would share the prizepool, - Koon, Chidwick, Paul Phua and Australia’s Michael Addamo – it was clear that the American, as well as Malaysian poker supremo Phua, would have a series to crow about.

Phua had lost heads-up to Koon in the Short Deck event 5 mentioned above and featured heavily in a number of other events, and when he took out Addamo it looked like a possible rematch was on the cards.

Chidwick, however, is a battler par excellence and somehow regrouped, knocking Phua out in a race and securing a trip-saving payday.

Koon, however, eventually snagged the title and said: “It’s been a dream week. It was incredible, it was amazing.”

Final results:

1 Jason Koon US$973,000*
2 Stephen Chidwick US$1,130,000*
3 Paul Phua US$535,000
4 Michael Addamo US$357,000
