Jonathan Depa Lifts the $25k Super High Roller Crown in Rio

Chicago pro Jonathan Depa broke his big tournament duck today with victory in the $25k Enjoy Punta del Este Super High Roller – the partypoker LIVE South America partner win worth $150,000, plus $500,000 in promotional casino chips!

The one-day highstakes tournament saw 41 entries chasing the $½million prizepool, only the top 5 making the money, and Scotland’s best-ever poker player Niall Farrell not at all happy with how his final table appearance ended up…

Farrell’s exit at the hands of reigning WSOP Main Event champ John Cynn, having had more than double the chips of nearest rival Ivan Luca at one point, opened the money-bubble fight, and Cynn once again proved to be the executioner – sending Zeiter to the rail empty-handed as well.

Neither Cynn nor Luca could make much headway, departing in 4th and 5th respectively, and when Patrick Mahoney fell in 3rd it was Depa facing Alex Keating for the title.

The bearded Keating had a boisterous rail behind him, with chants of "Come on beard man, come on beard man!" punctuating play as he attempted to best Depa, but the Chicago man’s nerve held and he eventually emerged victorious – breaking his string of four runner-up spots last year, with the $500k in casino chips a welcome bonus for a fine effort.

Final results

1 Jonathan Depa $150,000
2 Alex Keating $125,000
3 Patrick Mahoney $100,000
4 John Cynn $75,000
5 Ivan Luca $50,000
