Aaron Mermelstein Wins Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown $25k High Roller For $618,955

Aaron Mermelstein outlasted a high-quality field yesterday to take victory in the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown $25k High Roller, bagging his second-biggest career win in the process…

With 99 entries, and the likes of highstakes crusher Alex Foxen, former WSOP Main Event champ Joe McKeehen and Scotland’s Niall Farrell among those reaching the final table, Mermelstein was far from the favourite to lift the trophy.

Both Foxen and McKeehen played their part in a thrilling finish to the biggest buy-in event of the series, the former taking care of Jonathan Jaffe while the latter disposed of Shannon Shorr. Meanwhile, Mermelstein’s pocket nines won a race to get rid of Farrell.

When McKeehen fell in 3rd spot to the pocket aces of Foxen, it was heads-up for the title and the lion’s share of the $2.4million prizepool.

Flopping top pair in heads-up play is always likely to cost you chips, but for Foxen it was the title that slipped from his grasp, Mermelstein flopping a set and sealing the deal when the turn bricked Foxen last hope of a straight.

“I live here part-time now so for me it’s nice to get a big win here especially against a lot of the tougher competition," Mermelstein told reporters afterwards.

He added: “Feels sort of like home. It feels good. This is my first cash in a $25K, so it’s nice to win the first one.”
