Patrick Leonard Back to Winning Ways on the partypoker Sunday Grind

partypokers POWERFEST may be over, but the tables were as busy as ever yesterday as the Sunday grind returned, and site ambassador Patrick Leonard was among the big winners yet again...

By: Andrew Burnett

Let’s kick-off the weekly roundup with Leonard’s scoop, on a day that UK players dominated the high stakes tournaments.

A total of 117 entries for the $2100 Sunday High Roller Gladiator didn’t quite make fulfil the $250k guarantee, so there was some free money in the kitty for the likes of Kristen Krissyb24 Bicknell, Sami LarsLuzak Kelopuro and Roman SanityWaterline Romanovsky.

With almost al the big names fighting for the top prize, and the huge rake-free bounties that come with the PKO format, it saw Leonard – his partypoker moniker Patrick_Leonard an easy one to remember! – and Romanovsky fight it out for the big money.

A heads-up deal saw the Englishman walk off with equal parts bounty and regular money – a $47k+ payday – while Romanovsky wasn’t far behind with his $19,490 bounty element to add to the almost $24k regular split.

Moving down the stakes a little to the $100k GTD Sunday High Roller Grind and it was very close but ultimately no winner’s cigar for Viktor Isildur1 Blom.

The nine hour battle for a share of the spoils saw some very familiar names from among partypoker’s high stake tournament regulars.

Juha Helppi finished in 9th spot, and partypoker’s own Josip JozinhoPP Simunic took a very creditable 5th spot and $5800, but it was a heads-up battle between the legendary Isildur and the UK’s arrowhead76 that decided matters – Sweden having to settle for second on this occasion.

Sticking with the British winning streak and the $100k Sunday High Roller Clasico had its own share of big names involved, Niklas drulitoo Astedt making the final table while Chance ChanceSeeYou Kornuth just missed out with a 12th place finish.

Russian high stakes online reg Ilushan did his best to change the flag at the top, but eventually couldn’t prevent another UK win as slayerv1fan took down the $20,390 top prize

It wasn’t quite a UK-based a clean sweep of the big-money Sunday tournaments on partypoker though, Russian pro ifearpanic fighting through a tough field of 196 to take down the $1050 buy-in Sunday High Roller Deepstack event.

Alex FkTheseGuysBro Foxen made a deep run and a top ten finish, while a British trio fought their way to the final table, but eventually it was ifearpanic who bagged the $40,780 top payday by defeating JimyTransaction headsup…

Last but not least there was the $320 buy-in Sunday Gladiator, the PKO tournament exceeding its $250k guarantee after attracting 855 runners.

Roman SanityWaterline Romanovsky was in the mix once again, an eventual 6th spot finish handing him over $13k between the regular and bounty payments.

UK grinder jizonhisniz made a good tilt at the top spot but it was JimBlock who barred his way, the duo sharing the regular money for $17k and change each, while the bounty payments saw another $17k go to the winner and almost $9k to the runner-up.

So, that’s it for another week at partypoker’s high stakes Sunday grind – join us again next week to see who walks off with the huge paydays!
