Ludo Geilich Runs Into Big Trouble at the Highstakes PLO

Getting the big boys together for some high stakes PLO cash game action does not happen very often, but when it does it makes for incredible action, and that’s what we saw at Kings Casino recently when partypoker duo Sam Trickett and Ludovic Geilich turned up, alongside Fernando JNandez Habegger …

By: Andrew Burnett

With the stakes at a hefty €100/€100 blinds with a €200 straddle, it was high enough to separate the men from the boys – or perhaps we should say separate the No Limit Hold’em players from the real PLO experts…

partypoker Team pro Ludo Geilich is certainly an NLHE expert, but either he was off his game at PLO or, perhaps, the 4-card version isn’t his strong suit, as this following hand shows …

The blind-on-blind battle saw Geilich call a 4-bet out of position with his double-suited hand…

Geilich: A♠ 9♠ 8♥ 7♥
DanFiu: K♠ Q♣ 10♣ 8♦

But when the flop came…

Flop: J♣ K♣ A♦

…he seemed to lose his sense of danger, falling into his opponent’s trap when they check-checked to the turn…

Turn: 6h

With the Scotsman betting out and getting a call, the action moved to the river, with the pot already at almost €13,000

River: 8s

A bet of €4k by Geilich, holding two pair, saw Danfiu go into the tank, wondering how to get maximum value from his hand. An all-in shove of €19,700 was the choice…

…and eventually Geilich found a call, only to receive the bad news that he had run into a massive hand, rather than an elaborate bluff.

Unfortunately things didn’t improve for Ludo when he faced a very similar decision in the last hand of the stream…

…and we’ll leave it up to the reader to decide if it was bad play or just an unfortunate series of events that cost the partypoker man his stack yet again.
