Dan Jungleman Cates Closes Out Triton Poker Series With a $501,000 Party

Dan Jungleman Cates Triton Poker adventures  started with a party which will not be forgotten any time soon, and they ended with one too as he took down the closing, additional, HKD 300k ($38k) Mixed NLHE + Short Deck event for $501,000.

Jungleman Dan stopped off in Cannes, France en route to the Montenegro coast, indulging in a Playboy photo and videoshoot that went viral, the poker beast indulging in some seriously erotic action as preparation for the Triton SHR series.

Today, as the highstakes poker festival came to an end, the Maryland man fought off a relatively small field to grab a title and very respectable payday – the final $501,000 from an overall $42 million handed out across 12 events.

It was far from a walk in the park for Cates, however, with Triton ambassador Jason Koon, Triton co-founder Paul Phua and a small crew of other notables pushing him all the way.

Phua has been super-consistent this week, but a win eluded him yet again as he fell in 5th spot, and Mike Watson would take the painful money-bubble tag to finish a disappointing series for the Canadian.

This left Rui Cao, Koon and Cates to enjoy their $199,000 min. cashes, with the Frenchman hitting the rails after running big slick into Jungleman’s pocket rockets, and then being dispatched by Koon.

The mix of NLHE and Short Deck proved to be an interesting idea, but it wouldn’t affect the heads-up battle – one hand all that Cates needed to snare the trophy and first prize, and Koon will have to wait until the super highroller series descends on London in a couple of months to try for his 4th Triton title.

Final results

1 Dan Cates $501,000
2 Jason Koon $302,000
3 Rui Cao $199,000
