The cash game and tournament hybrid created by Americas Cardroom that pits players against each other with a starting stack of 5,000 chips and a time limit of 12 hours spread out over two days resulted in a half dozen players turning a profit. It was the third of six Cage Live events on the schedule for 2019.

The venue is the Taormina Hotel in San Jose, Costa Rica that serves as a mini-vacation for players as fun in the sun and wild nightlife action is part of the package aside from exciting poker that's streamed live on Twitch. The Cage Live has become increasingly popular since its inception as players are also treated to a tour of Winning Poker Network offices by CEO Phil Nagy.

While some players attend the Cage Live on their own dime, a bunch more make it to Costa Rica via a $55 Beast and Sit & Crush Cage Live satellite held every Sunday at 6:00 p.m. ET. Up for grabs each week are two guaranteed prize packages valued at $8,340 each.

Included in the package are the $5,250 Cage Live buy-in, $800 for the flight, $340 to participate in cash games, $1,000 in walking around money, and a 3-night stay at the superb Taormina Casino and Hotel. Suntan lotion isn't included, but is recommended.

Also recommended is bringing your A-game to the table as late registration and re-entries aren't permitted. Once you enter the Cage Live you're there for good until either busting out or cashing in whatever chips remain in front of you after the 12-hour game concludes.

There is, however, a double buy option for an extra $5,250 entry for an additional 5,000 chips that can be used at any time but must be purchased prior to the start of the Cage Live. The extra chips never have to be put in play, but can be whenever you so desire. There is one caveat - if you happen to go busto, playing the added 5,000 chip stack is mandatory.

Among the players who used the double buy option at the recent Cage Live were Troy Quenneville, Thomas Cannuli, and Zachary Humphrey. You can see how they fared at the final chip tally listed below.

1 Igor Senkov $36,965
2 Matthew Jameson Forsythe $26,145
3 David Bruno $22,300
4 Troy Quenneville $20,780
5 Thomas Cannuli $20,540
6 Sam Horrocks $13,860
7 Zachary Humphrey $4,410

If you'd like to enjoy a weekend in Costa Rica as well as see your name on that list, there are three Cage Live events yet to be played this year. The dates are August 9-12, October 4-7, and December 6-9, with the last two scheduled as Pot Limit Omaha instead of No Limit Texas Hold'em.

Remember, two $8,340 prize packages are claimed every Sunday in the $55 Beast and Sit & Crush Cage Live satellites!
