The HyperX Esports Arena was the scene of the German’s latest triumph, all of the WPT’s 17th season final tables given the special treatment and played out under bright lights and cameras.

As expected of such an event it proved to be a tough final table, and it included two players more often seen behind the mic, commentators Nick Schulman and Tony Dunst.

The former would depart first in the race to crown a Champion of Champions, but Dunst would make it all the way to a heads-up showdown with Schemion.

When Schemion finally saw off Dunst and lifted the title he stated: “It was a tough final table - it was a nice game – I enjoyed it.”

He added: “It feels great. I’m tired and happy to go home now, but I’m satisfied. It was a nice tournament overall and nice to win.”

Schemion’s $440,395 scoop was topped up with some special prizes, the traditional $15k entry into next year’s Tournament of Champions as well as a special-edition Hublot watch, along with a custom-made BBO Poker Table. From the sponsors there was a handcrafted Baccarat Crystal Tornado Vase and a Baccarat Crystal Champagne Flute set.

3 Ryan Tosoc $166,845
4 Simon Lam $115,945
