Daniel Strelitz Wins WSOP $5k NLHE Event And $442,385

Daniel Strelitz finally got the WSOP monkey off his back with victory in the $5k NLHE event 11, a gold bracelet after years of deep runs and near-misses to go with a $442,385 payday.

A nice round 400 entries kicked off the event on Monday, with a $1,860,000 prizepool up for grabs and the top 60 in the money. Last night, however, those had been whittled down to the final six playing for the title, with Maria Ho, Ali Imsirovic and Shannon Shorr in the mix.

The former two couldn’t make it beyond 5th and 4th respectively, but Shorr fought his way to the heads-up finale against Strelitz – both men chasing their first piece of WSOP jewellery.

What could have been a very long match indeed was cut short by Strelitz’s timely good fortune, afterwards admitting: “It was insane how good I ran. I barely had to bluff at all. I just kept getting good hand after good hand.”

When it was all over, Strelitz told reporters: “I’m feeling pretty good. I finally got it off my back.” He added: “I came close a few times, and it’s kind of disappointing. But it wasn’t like I was desperate. But it’s still just a massive relief. I’m super happy.”

Final table results

1 Daniel Strelitz $442,385
2 Shannon Shorr $273,416
3 Ognjen Sekularac $186,050
4 Ali Imsirovic $129,018
5 Maria Ho $91,211
6 Arsenii Karmatckii $65,764
