Robert Mitchell Scoops $800 No-Limit Hold'em Deepstack for $297,537

Robert Mitchell took down his biggest-ever payday and his first WSOP gold bracelet in the early hours of this morning when he won the $800 NLHE Deepstack title for $297,537.

The Henderson, Nevada grinder had already shown some form this series, three small cashes including a decent run in last week’s Shootout event giving him the confidence needed when he found himself on the verge of a lifelong dream.

“That shootout helped me a lot”, Mitchell explained to WSOP reporters afterwards. “I was so close I tasted the bracelet... I knew I was going to have another shot at it. I’ve been playing poker for a long time and felt like it was long overdue. It’s awesome.”

With 2,808 entries producing a prizepool just a single buy-in short of $2million, there was plenty to play for as just 26 players returned for a brutal play-to-the-finish final day.

Players fell by the wayside with rapid regularity and when bracelet holder Ben Moon hit the rails in 7th there was $50k+ guaranteed for the remaining half dozen.

That would be whittled down to a heads-up battle between Mitchell and Marco Bognanni and as we have already seen this WSOP, a bracelet winning hand of pocket aces sealed the deal, Bognanni’s pocket treys unable to improve.
