The German pro was one of 1867 entries who were chasing the bracelet and a share of the $2,520,450 prizepool, a number of poker’s biggest names giving the rapid-fire event a shot.

Daniel Negreanu, Kristen Bicknell and her other half Alex Foxen all made the money, as did Bertrand ElkY Grospelier and Chris Jesus Ferguson.

Lauck and his fellow final tablers aren’t usually seen in such exalted company, but that’s a huge part of the draw of the annual WSOP, and they made the most of their chances.

Canada, Brazil, the UK and the USA, as well as Lauck’s Germany, were all represented in the final nine, with Fernando Viana taking the first of the six-figure scores for his 3rd place finish.

Heads-up between Lauck and Robert Bickley lasted only two hands, Bickley’s pocket kings and Lauck’s open-ended straight draw seeing all the chips go in on the flop, the river seven hitting the German man to land the gold bracelet.

It wasn’t the first big scoop for the Saarland pro, Lauck having won the 2016 WCOOP Main Event for a staggering $1.5million+ score under the nickname llJaYJaYll.

Lauck told WSOP reporters after his historic victory: ''I guess one of the biggest [achievements], for sure. It wasn't the biggest cash but the bracelet is a big achievement that I wanted to have. For me, it was a special win because I was once heads-up and I lost. I wanted to have this bracelet and it feels very good.''
