Negreanu Busts Main Event As The Rio Shakes Off Earthquake

Day 2ab of the WSOP Main Event took centre stage yesterday and, although it could not match the previous day for craziness, it had its own share of thrills and spills - Daniel Negreanu among those who crashed out and Jeff Gross filming an earthquake!

Friday had seen chips being ‘stolen’ and bizarre, shoe-throwing striptease antics, but yesterday saw at least one apology – George Belianin remorseful for a joke gone wrong…

It was a day where the survivors from 1a and 1b came together to build or bust their stacks, and for Daniel Negreanu it was the latter.

Sitting on a meagre 20BB or so, the man voted ‘Fan Favorite’ from the WSOP’s 50 years found pocket jacks and a low flop – calling off Meddi Ferrah’s all-in, only to see his opponent table pocket aces. Game over for Kid Poker.

Qui Nguyen, champion in 2016, opened the day’s play with the traditional ‘shuffle up and deal’ and ended it with a healthy stack, but he won’t be joined by Chris Ferguson, Stephen Chidwick, Justin Bonomo or Phil Galfond.

They all fell as around 3300 players were chopped down to just over 1100, with 2013 champion Ryan Riess another to hit the rail, but better news for Shaun Deeb, Hendon Mobster Barny Boatman and Poker Fraud Alert’s Todd Witteles who all bagged healthy stacks.

Later today the survivors from Friday will take their turn in day 2c, everyone who makes it through combining with yesterday’s survivors on Monday for day 3.
