Seth Palansky, VP of Corporate Communications for the WSOP, explained last month that the initial $50k event had been scheduled too early in the Series, adding: "It’s tough at this stage to fit things in, but we found this slot on July 8 that we thought could satisfy everyone".

‘Everyone’ became a 109-player field, and by the end of play only 45 survivors bagged and tagged, Seth Davies leading the way but some legendary names hot on his heels.

Dan Smith, Elior Sion, Adrian Mateos and Fedor Holz fill out the top five chip counts, with another who’s-who of highstakes poker eyeing a deep run when day two gets underway this afternoon.

Negreanu made it through as mentioned and will be joined by Cary Katz, Brian Rast, David Peters and Jason Koon among others, but Erik Seidel, Justin Bonomo and Kristen Bicknell all hit the rail in what is a very strong field.

There is still a chance for players to register today and the top prize is likely to be somewhere around the $1.5million mark, all the latest chip counts available from the tweet below…
