Alan Sternberg Scoops $448K and First WSOP Title in $3K PLO 6-Handed

The first place prize of $448,392 and a first WSOP gold bracelet was won by Alan Sternberg as he topped 835 entrants in Event #85: $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha 6-Handed.

Sternberg told WSOP reporters after the victory that PLO isn't his best game, yet he binked this event on the heels of a 7th place finish in $1,500 Omaha Mix for $21,582. The title allowed him to pass $2 million in lifetime cashes, with his best score coming in 2011 when he won the $10K WPT Shooting Star Championship for $1,039,000.

The final table included HighStakes pro Joseph Cheong, who won his first WSOP bracelet earlier this summer in $1K NLHE Double Stack for $687,782. Cheong was the only final tablist with a WSOP title under his belt.

Cheong ($64,722) and Ka Kwan Lau ($90,674) were both short-stacked and were both eliminated on the same hand by eventual runner-up Evangelos Kokkalis ($227,087), who hit an ace high straight on the turn. Four-handed play continued for hours before Millard Hale ($129,313) settled for 4th place and John Richards' ($187,670) deep run ended in 3rd.

The chip lead changed hands a number of times between the heads-up combatants until the final hand in which Kokkalis had plenty of outs with a flush draw and gutshot straight draw, but connected on neither, allowing Sternberg to capture the title. The prize pool totaled $2,254,500.

Final Table Results:

1 Alan Sternberg $448,392
2 Evangelos Kokkalis $227,087
3 John Richards $187,670
4 Millard Hale $129,313
5 Ka Kwan Lau $90,674
6 Joseph Cheong $64,722
