The 2019 WSOP drew to a close with Event #89: $5,000 NLHE as Carl Shaw topped 608 entries to win $606,562 and his first gold bracelet.

The victory was a redemption of sorts following Shaw's 101st place finish for $59,295 in the Main Event, the new champ admitting to WSOP reporters that he "was a little bit disappointed" at not going even deeper in the ME and that the experience left him "more hungry" to win a WSOP tournament.
Also hungry for gold bracelets is Phil Hellmuth, still stuck on 15 after landing 6th for $97,899. This summer saw the PokerBrat's bracelet hunt interrupted by a Machu Picchu vacation with notable celebrities that included Rob Lowe.
While hanging out with pretty boys may have defined Hellmuth's summer, that wasn't the case for runner-up Tony Dunst, who won $374,886 while finishing 2nd. Dunst recorded five cashes at the 50th annual WSOP, his latest bringing his career winnings to $3,663,165.
Also among the final tablists shooting for a chunk of the $2,827,200 prize pool in Event #89 was poker's most well-known tanker, Jordan Cristos, whose A-3 got dunked by Dunst's A-2 when the dealer turned over a deuce on 4th street. Cristos can take all the time he wants thinking about his 4th place finish for $182,575.
Shaw's win gave the UK four gold bracelet winners over the last seven weeks including Stephen Chidwick, Ben Heath, and HighStakes pro Luke Schwarz.
