Aaron Zang scoops the Triton Million for £19million

Aaron Zang is the Triton Million Helping Hand for Charity winner, the Chinese recreational player taking down the £19million first prize after a dramatic turnaround heads-up against Bryn Kenney...

The final table of eight had already been scythed down to just four as we reported earlier – Bryn Kenney, Dan Smith and Stephen Chidwick joined by Chinese nosebleed cash game ‘amateur’ Zang as the biggest-ever buy-in, biggest-ever first prize tournament in history played down to a winner.

England’s Stephen Chidwick was many people’s favourite to win on home soil, but he put his faith in pocket sevens at a crucial moment and ran into a horrible flop, succumbing in 4th spot for £4,410,000.

There seemed to be no stopping Kenney, the Long Beach, New Yorker responsible for three of the final table bustouts, Dan Smith his next victim, falling in 3rd for a £7,200,000 ($8,755,223) payout…

That bustout meant that, regardless of the heads-up battle ahead, Bryn Kenney would take over the number one all-time spot ahead of Justin Bonomo

There was one more hurdle for Kenney, the very talented Aaron Zang, and the difference between first and second places was a staggering £7.33million, Kenney holding a 5.5-1 chip lead.

It took almost no time at all for Zang to turn things around, however, two massive hands sealing Kenney’s fate – a pair of coinflips both going against the American and suddenly it was all over.

Final table results

1 Aaron Zang £19,000,000
2 Bryn Kenney £11,670,000
3 Dan Smith £7,200,000
4 Stephen Chidwick £4,410,000

6 Bill Perkins £2,200,000

The Triton Poker Super High Roller Series in London is far from over, though, with the final table of the Turbo event finishing tomorrow and many other huge buy-in tournaments, including Short Deck events, still to come.
