Charlie Carrel Lands Maiden Triton Victory Worth £1,321,000 In £50k Event

If the Triton Million finale had you staying up late to watch the best in the world battling it out for a £19million top prize, then spare a thought for Charlie Carrel and Jason Koon – the highstakes duo fighting until 4am in the £50k 8-handed, and then returning hours later to finish it off, Carrel emerging victorious!

It’s rare that a £50k buy-in turns into a side-event, but it was just as hotly-contested as the £1million buy-in charity spectacular that Aaron Zang took down at around midnight, winning £19million.

By that time, the likes of Talal Shakerchi and Isaac Haxton had doubled their money, or more, in the £50k event as Triton Poker’s SHR series rumbled on deep into the night.

Swiss online genius Linus LLinusLLove Loeliger took 3rd place for the biggest cash of his career, although barely half a day later he would top that with victory in the delayed finale of the £25k Turbo tournament.

Come 4am and the two men left, Carrel and Koon, had no choice but to end play, local gaming regulations taking priority but already assured of at least £900k apiece…

… and when they returned, both rather short-stacked, it was anyone’s guess who would win.

Koon’s luck was out though, the Triton Poker ambassador looking for his 4th SHR series victory and bemoaning a couple of huge rivers that hit Carrel perfectly, including the one that spelled victory for the Englishman…

“Sick!” Carrel said upon victory, adding: “We did it, man. I feel pretty good.”

Both men will be playing the £100k Main Event as the Triton SHHR Series continues throughout the week.

Final results

1 Charlie Carrel £1,321,000

3 Linus Loeliger £594,000
