Jason Mercier Wins SHRPO $50k High Roller For $715,860

Jason Mercier returned to the winners circle this week, taking down the Seminole Hard Rock Poker $50k High Roller for $715,860 after barely playing over the past year or so since becoming a dad…

Mercier has been a staple of the highstakes tournament and cash game scene for over a decade, and coincidentally his last big win was in another SHRPO event in the spring of 2017 – just months before his son Marco was born.

The career break didn’t seem to have done him much harm, though, as he powered into a massive chip lead for the start of the final day, seven players chasing a prizepool of $1,988,500 – double the guarantee and the biggest $50k in SHRPO history.

Mercier was responsible for two of the first three KO’s, ending Albert Dahler and Manig Loeser’s title hopes, and when Franklin Fok took care of the rest, they were heads-up for the title.

With Mercier’s poker-playing wife Natasha again 7 months pregnant, as with his 2017 win, it seemed that co-incidence was in charge of the outcome – Mercier finishing off Fok in a typical pre-flop, all-in race…

Victory and $715,860 for Mercier, who explained on the SHRPO blog: “Even before the event, Natasha said, ‘I’m seven months pregnant. This is exactly when you won the $25K two years ago, so you have to win the $50K.'”

Mercier added, “It’s kind of weird that it actually happened this way. I wish she could always be seven months pregnant, but I don’t think she wants that.”

Final table results

1 Jason Mercier $715,860
2 Franklin Fok $457,355
3 Thomas Boivin $288,330
4 Giuseppe Iadisernia $198,850
