Tony G Takes Down Triton Short Deck at partypoker MILLIONS for €237,250

Tony G emerged victorious in the Triton Poker €25k Short Deck tournament at the partypoker MILLIONS in Rozvadov today, taking the trophy and a €237,250 after defeating China’s Wake Yu heads-up.

The 36-card version of Texas Hold’em has become a firm favourite of the Triton crew, and yesterday at Leon Tsoukernik’s Kings Casino there were 27 entries creating a €641,250 prizepool.

Of the seven who returned for today’s final table, only five would be in the money – a €61,000 payout starting the cash prizes – and Loose Leon himself well in the mix.

Paul Phua, the Triton Poker co-founder instrumental in popularising the Short Deck game both in and outside of Asia, was looking for glory in his own event, but Tony G had other ideas.

With Phua all-in pre-flop, the Lithuanian legend Tony G made the call…

Paul Phua: Q♥ Jh♥
Tony G: A♦ K♥
Board: 9♠ J♣ 10♠ 7♠ Q♠

That river card sent the Malaysian to the rails, but he’ll be back to fight another day…

Now on the money bubble, Liang Yu’s tournament life was on the line in the next big hand… the flop not what he wanted to see, and the rivered straight flush sealing his exit….

Cary Katz: J♠ 10♦
Liang Yu: A♥ 9♥
Board: 10♠ 7♠ 9♠ K♣ 8♠

Choon Tong Siow had done well to hang in with a short stack, eventually falling in 5th for a €61,000 cash, leaving four to fight it out for the title…

Katz was tag-teamed out in 4th having shoved his short stack in with KJ, Loose Leon’s KQ good enough to send him to the rail, but then it was Leon’s turn to find himself desperately short.

Shoving his last 160,000 from the cutoff, he found a call from Tony G on the button, and again the flop was a brutal one…

Leon Tsoukernik: A♥ 6♥
Tony G: 9♦ 7♣
Board: Q♠ 7♥ 7♦ 10♥ 6♦

Tsoukernik’s exit left Tony G facing the little-known Wake Yu heads-up…

… the Chinese player one of several talented highstakes players who have only recently made their move at the poker tables outside of Asia.

For a while it looked as though Yu was somehow going to turn the tables, surviving unscathed from four all-in-at-risk hands, but perseverance finally paid off for Tony G…

Tony G: 10♣ 10♥
Yake Wu: A♦ J♥
Board: 7♠ 8♦ 9♠ 9♣ 10♣

…and the celebrations could begin!

Final results:

1 Tony G €237,250
2 Yake Wu €163,000
3 Leon Tsoukernik €104,500
4 Cary Katz €75,500
5 Choon Tong Siow €61,000
